KOTATSU
Idea
Is a conference table ever good for creative flow? I struggle to feel activated, and believe even small changes to our environment can impact our creativity positively.
Approach
Steal the vibe of Japan's greatest invention, Kotatsu: the low, heated table. Frame the workshop with rituals - eating together, sharing gratitude and dreams for a memorable creative experience.
KOTATSU: JAPAN'S SECRET SOCIAL HACK
There's something about sitting on the floor. It's a great way to feel more connected to each other. Simply rearranging the space physically, opens up our minds without even thinking about it.
STEP 1. TRANSFORMING THE ROOM
I boxed off a corner of our office and reconfigured it to match the real Kotatsu experience. Low table, floor pillows and all.
STEP 2. TEA, SNACKS & WARM-UPS
To ease everyone into the creative mindset, we shared some tea while casually checking in.
STEP 4. UNLOCKING CREATIVITY
This instance of the workshop centred around ways of hacking your mind to be more creative.
STEP 5. REMEMBERING INSIGHTS
We finished by collecting insights and moments of gratitude on Tanzaku paper slips and decorating our plant together. Unlike forgotten post-its in a box, this corner reminds us of our experiences.
SPACEMAKING
I'm passionate about creating together - and part of it is simply having fun with the space. These are some designs I decorated our space with.
