FIELD LAB INTERFACE DESIGN
Challenge
Designing the interface for a medical field lab, to help users track a time and temperature sensitive process.
Approach
Eliminate distractions and provide multiple signals that reinforce each other, to quickly assess the status.
INTERFACE OVERVIEW
A large screen tells nurses what they need to know quickly, at a glance.
A LED-button for each of the two phases, and four LEDs help indicate progress and status.
ANIMATION
This animation demonstrates the interface during the heating phase, where a water bath is heated to 65°C
This low fidelity prototype offered an intuitive exploration of how the device could aid users throughout the entire process. The goal was to create a clear, glanceable, highly legible interface.
INTERACTION CHART
I designed the interface by analysing how users interact with the lab. I considered what information is needed at each step, when and how the lab should demand attention. Legibility was a key priority.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
I chose to highlight the interaction with the Field Lab - but it's a small part of a bigger project. There were plenty of other design, usability and manufacturing requirements considered in designing the lab.
